6. [Nebuta Museum “Wa Rasse”]
When you think of Aomori prefecture one of the first things that come to mind is probably the Nebuta Festival.
This festival is held in August every year attracting 3 million visitors. It is considered one of Japan’s top firework displays as well. Large illuminated floats are pulled through the centre of town surrounded by Haneto dancers who shout out “Rassera Rassera!” as they skip down the streets.
The museum, located next to Aomori Station, is brimming with festival atmosphere enticing visitors to join in the celebrations all year round! You can even try Haneto dancing or taiko drumming here!
The museum also overlooks the scenic Aomori Bay Bridge and Aomori Port.

5.[Hirosaki Castle (Hirosaki Park)]
Hirosaki Park is best known for its 2600 cherry blossom trees which bloom in beautiful shades of pink in the spring.
The highlight of the autumn, however, is the 1000 maple trees spread throughout the park.
When the mountains start to turn from shades of green into vivid reds and yellows it signals the arrival of autumn in Japan’s wondrous north which soon extends to Hirosaki producing the scene of an ancient castle lit up in glorious autumn colours.
Within the grounds of the castle you’ll find 3 gun turrets and 5 castle gates (dating back 400 years), all of which have been designated as Important Cultural Properties.
Furthermore, in 1952, the castle ruins were also designated as a National Heritage Site.
The castle was constructed in 1610 (completed in 1611) and is one of only 12 castles in existence in the whole of Japan to have been constructed in the beginning of the Edo Era.
It is also the only remaining castle built in the Tohoku region in the Edo Era with a castle tower (though it was rebuilt in 1810).
There are many ways to enjoy the beauty of autumn at Hirosaki Castle (Hirosaki Park).
Everyone who visits will surely be able to experience autumn to its fullest.
